Durham Children in Care Council
The Children in Care Council (supported by Investing in Children) exists to give children in care and care leavers a voice and help them to have a say in the way their care service is run.Â
All children and young people that are looked after in County Durham are automatically members of the Children in Care Council (CiCC) and can take part in discussions and raise any issues they may have.
The CiCC members meet monthly to talk about issues which are important to them, including their six priority areas, highlight what works and share stories of the support they have received. Â
The six priorities are:Â
Feeling Safe
A stable home that creates positive memories and promotes good times growing up.Â
Emotional and Physical well-being
Emotional and physical support tailored and provided by the right people at the right time.Â
Positive people in your life
Having people around you that are positive and who you can turn to for advice/ support/ friendship. Also being part of the local community.Â
Being listened to
Having the chance to share your views on life in different ways.
Understanding things better
Develop information and present it in different ways so that children and young people understand how people are trying to help them.Â
To be the best I can be
Learning and developing in a variety of ways, connecting and learning through different opportunities.Â
What do you think of the priorities?
We would love to hear from you on what you think of these six priorities. Is there anything you could add? Any ideas on how this could look?
